Stage 7, Alaska

Riding the Stewart-Cassiar highway in BC. What a road. More than 500 miles worth of epic riding. On this road alone, we saw over four black bears. Typical gasoline stations are primitive, very primitive in northern BC or Yukon Territory, so you gotta fill up when you get a chance.

How close is too close?

You really have to wonder. How close is too close to a grizzly bear? Saw this beauty on our way out of Skagway. I gotta say, he was calm and didn't really mind us. Wonderful animal. One of the most incredible experiences I've had in my life.

Skagway and Beyond

Following day we hopped on the ferry and headed to Skagwya. The weather was kind to us, with a beautiful sunny day. I was taken back by how different Skagway is compared to Haines. Skagway is a on "wild west" type of tourist town, with lots of cruise ships unloading tourists every day. But, I enjoyed every minute. The ferry ride was also interesting. It was a bit hard to secure the bikes on the ferry, but some of the crew helped us. These crew members are like real-world Popeye sailors. Their forearms are unbelievably strong, wow! The ferry left us a bit late in Skagway, so we had a long day ahead of us.

Haines, AK

In Haines, we were able to get the best cabin ever. On the water's edge and overseeing the Chilkoot inlet, our cabin allow us to have some down time and enjoy the scenery. We cooked some meat and had some beers. We even had a bond fire on the sandy beach, with some really cold weather. The cabin owners were from Texas, so they showed off their Texan spirit while waving their flag proudly. May 25th, 2017.

This shot was captured on the way to Haines, AK. That's my brother Robert on the KLR. The shot was taken close to Samuel Peak on the road to Haines. It's hard to describe how the white powder snow reflected with the sunlight, but it was nothing short of magical. Definitely one of the most memorable moments of our time in Alaska (or the Canadian territory). It was very cold up there, about 30 degrees Fahrenheit.

Destruction Bay

Destruction Bay in the Yukon Territory was one of our favorite places. We spent like two hours there, just messing around. The melting lake was impressive, first time I or any of us had seen one. The classic helmet shot, has become a tradition for us, we one every trip we do.

We took out the mavic pro drone and took some video and pics of the lake. Take a look, see what you think.

"The Substitute"

Memorable experience for me. My brother substituted for Fernando, who had too many things going on and couldn't make it on the trip. Can't describe how cool it is to go on such an epic road trip with your brother, hope some of you adv riders get a chance to do the same.

American Flag in Alaska

This is one of my favorite pics from the trip. Jorge enjoying the sun (which you don't get much of in Alaska) on the ferry from Haines to Skagway, AK. The American flag in the background, the water, and the snow covered mountains.

Stage 7 Complete!

Stage 7 complete! It was a fantastic stage, with only a few setbacks. In the coming days and weeks I'll do a set of posts to share with you our incredible experience.

Denali National Park

Here's a pic of my buddy Aradio at the entrance of Denali National Park. Getting to "see" Mt. Denali was impossible with the cloudy, rainy weather. They say a typical visitor only has about a 65% chance of seeing the mountain.

Top of the World Highway

Denali National Park
